Give Triathlon a Try!

The Busselton 5 is the perfect way to introduce your kids to the exciting world of triathlon! Held as part of the iconic Busselton Festival of Triathlon, this fun and safe event is designed for children aged 7-15 years, offering a chance to swim, bike, and run in a supportive environment. Whether your child is ready to have a go for the first time, or has already caught the triathlon bug, the event builds confidence and encourages a healthy, active lifestyle. The event is not timed, and instead focuses on getting all participants through the finish line with a smile!

PLEASE NOTE:

There are no parents wave or team options for the Busselton 5 in 2026. All kids will compete individually without parental assistance on course. Kids must be aged 7-15 years old as at 31/12/2025 to be eligible to participate.

All kids will be closely supervised and supported during the race by our team of volunteers and staff to ensure their safety. However, to help them enjoy a positive and stress-free race experience, it’s important that they feel confident and capable in all three disciplines (swimming, cycling, and running) before race day. Practicing swim, bike, run and transition skills at home together, doing a beginners triathlon course (Trystars) with a local club, or taking on a kids triathlon or two before the Busselton 5 are all great ways to prepare. Find a list of all Kids Triathlon events and beginners courses this season on the TWA website.

Children participating the Busselton 5 triathlon should be confident swimmers, as the swim leg takes place in the open ocean. While the course does not take them too far off shore, and there will be plenty of water safety personnel (lifeguards) in the water to support participants, the event may not be suitable for children who are unable to swim the 100m distance independently.

Kids with Additional Support Needs: For participants with special needs or disabilities, we offer tailored support and race modifications to suit individual requirements. In these cases, we can to arrange for a parent or guardian to join their child on course to provide extra assistance as needed. Our team are here to help, so please contact us at [email protected] to share your child’s individual needs and explore how we can best support them on race day.
