OFFICIAL HYDRATION SUPPLIER - SHOTZ ELECTROLYTE TABLETS
Shotz Electrolyte Tablets are the official on-course hydration for the SunSmart Ironman 70.3 Busselton.
Hydration is very specific, meaning that everyone competing will lose varying amounts of sweat and varying amounts of sodium. What this means is that you need to be mindful of how much you require so you don’t drink too much that you compromise your stomach, which will force you to slow down, but ensure you drink enough that sweat and sodium loss doesn’t impact too much on your performance.
The Shotz Electrolyte Tablets do not contain any sugar/calories, which allows you to consume an amount of fluid based on your own needs, but importantly adjust that volume of fluid based on the weather conditions you are experiencing during the race.
Now Busselton can get very cold in the morning and if you have competed there before you will know how cold it can get. When it is cold you don’t sweat that much and the need for fluid intake is not that critical and for those athletes relying on their calories in their drink (typical sports drinks) they are provided with two choices.
Choice No.1 – Try to access their calories through their drink, which forces them to drink a volume of fluid way beyond what they require in cold conditions, ultimately leading to stomach problems that can show up during the bike, or later on in the run.
Choice No. 2 – Because of the cold conditions the athlete doesn’t feel the need to drink very much, which is wise as their sweat rate is likely not very high. What happens here is that the athlete does not access the calories they require to ensure they arrive into T2 ready for a strong run.
The simple answer is to use the Shotz Electrolyte Tablets in your bottles so you’re not locked into drinking a set volume of fluid, but instead can hydrate based on the weather conditions that show up on race day. The other advantage of the Shotz Electrolyte Tablets is that you can add more tablets to your bottle if you feel you require more sodium.
